I launched the Moderate Method podcast this week, and the first episode covers the story behind this site. Here is the quick recap.
In my early 30s, my weight crept up toward 200 pounds. I started cutting meals I was not actually hungry for, breakfast first, then lunch, until dinner became my one real meal of the day. I did not change what I ate at dinner. That shift alone brought my weight down to around 185 and kept it there for close to two decades.

Around age 50, I came across the term intermittent fasting and realized it described how I had already been eating for years. That led me to three books that shaped my thinking: “The Obesity Code” by Jason Fung, “Why We Get Fat” by Gary Taubes, and “The Big Fat Surprise” by Nina Teicholz. Those books pushed me toward keto for a while, which dropped my weight further to about 175 and cut my sweet tooth almost entirely.
I did not stick with strict keto long term. I moved back toward regular food without heavy restriction, and that is where the idea of moderation started to take hold. The same pattern showed up in my workouts. I scaled back from an hour a day to about 30 minutes, split across strength training, cardio, and stretching, and my weight kept settling into the 165 to 170 range where it sits today.
I also talk about retiring in 2019 at age 53, after decades of near round-the-clock work, and how that decision reshaped my daily routine. The site itself started out as Keto Cooking before I renamed it Moderate Method, once keto stopped being how I actually lived.
Episode two is coming soon with an actual topic lined up. Let me know what you think at mail@moderatemethod.com.
